Unreasonable Expectations

Unreasonable Expectations

There’s no doubt that Steve Jobs was an original. He refused to compromise on his vision, and our world is forever changed.  He defied the “normal” and moved toward the “natural”  -  a state of cooperation with his inner driving force.  He was unapologetic for his relentless commitment to excellence. Following that inner muse moved him far beyond the status quo.

Steve is gone and his legacy lives on.  Our world is irrevocably changed because of his refusal to settle.

Steve Jobs was a bright light. Yet, that same magnificent obsession and light can be seen when a mother chooses to spend time with her family instead of her career, or her career instead of her family.  None of us can be Steve Jobs.  We can, however, live lives of greatness.  The decisions are yours for the making.

Making a decision to become unstoppable will surface fears.  Loving will surface fears.  Watching someone else succeed will also trigger fears. What we deny we will see in others. What we judge about others lives within us.  That’s why fear can never be outrun.  The ultimate impact of fear is the loss of our authentic self.

Every one of us has our own one-of-a-kind destiny.  When fear comes calling, I know it is time for me to let go. When I can’t do that, I get busy completing what I have left undone.  That frees up space for new creativity and taking positive action starves the fear.

What’s one step you can take to free yourself from fear?

Take a moment right now. Breathe in, breathe out. Be grateful. Breathe again, and ask yourself, “What is one decision I can make today that will get me moving?”

Now just go do it. No excuses, just an unreasonable expectation that you can complete the next small step. That’s what Steve did. That’s what you can do too.
